‘Freaky Food Festival’

The 'Freaky Food Festival' is a festival that stands for innovation and experimentation. The fitting visual style for this is theatrical, alienated, and gastronomic. For this festival, I created a series of three posters within six weeks. The goal of this campaign is to spark curiosity, build enthusiasm, and draw people to the festival.

‘Freaky Food Festival’

After a joint start with a group of five, in which we each conducted a part of the research, I drew conclusions from this. Based on these conclusions, I formulated a problem statement and objective, conducted an additional interview with the target group, and created a persona. This helped me enormously to forge my own path away from the group.

Process

‘Freaky Food Festival’

Based on defining the research, I created a fitting style to build upon during the brainstorming process. This style features an old-theatrical atmosphere with a modern twist through the mixed media style and modern compositions. In this way, it appeals to a broad target audience.

After asking for feedback, I further broadened my style by adding a texture mood board and shapes. From here, I can work more specifically and arrive at a suitable image more quickly.

During the brainstorming phase, I sought out a lot of inspiration and created mood boards from it. I have shown the strongest mood boards and sketches on the right here. Based on feedback from my many brainstorming sessions, I arrived at a fixed concept idea to proceed with prototyping. My strongest concept is 'taste the tension of the senses'.You can extract the tension/theatrical atmosphere from this concept and make people curious.

While prototyping these posters, I realized it was more work than I thought. I spent a long time illustrating the curtains on the stage.I used photos for the audience, the wooden floor, and the sign. This way, I was able to bring back the mixed media concept.I created many versions, playing with the placement of the letters and the angle of the spotlights.Ultimately, I arrived at a beautiful prototype and adapted it for each self- illustrated figure.

There is also a thought behind the chosen food items. If you look closely, you can see that the food wants to 'fight' back with an item. The item they are holding is the item with which they themselves can be 'neutralized'.Every chosen piece of food is a stimulating piece of food for the senses. In this way, I make the connection with my concept regarding the senses.

After being very satisfied with my prototypes, I applied a paper texture to the posters. In this way, I bring back the sensory experience by showing the creases in the paper, and the corporate identity I created fits perfectly into my final project.

Concert Street Interviews

I made my first-ever series for my personal social media.I started this 'series' thinking it would be a one-off video, but there was so much interest in more that I eventually turned it into a mini-series of four videos.

Introduction

Concert Street Interviews

This project is based on my own interests, and therefore on what my social media revolves around. I recorded the first episode in the center of Utrecht and the other three at a concert, because there was a lot of demand for it.In these episodes, I ask fans questions that can generate a lot of reactions and opinions in the video comments. These can be both serious and funny questions.Recording these videos is always super fun, and the videos went online better and better over time. For now, I have stopped this series, but in the future, I want to continue with it using new skills and better microphones.

‘Nature Fascination’

In my first year of study, we had to complete an art assignment. For this, we went for a nature walk, during which we had to choose a fascination from nature to create a creative expression about for younger children. As my nature fascination, I chose mushrooms. My concept idea was to create a large, hollow mushroom that you can look inside from the top and see a gnome's bedroom. This suits the imaginative minds of young children.

Introduction

During the prototyping of my art project, I made extensive use of cardboard. This formed the base. To achieve a more realistic texture, I used masking tape around the mushroom.I sprayed the mushroom cap with spray paint and pasted a face onto it.Furthermore, I created the bedroom interior from clay.

‘Family Secret’

For my 'Content Design' profile subject, I created an assignment themed around mystery. For this, I was tasked with choosing a story about someone in my immediate circle and making a documentary about it, along with a brochure and a poster.I chose the story of a boy named Sepp, who is in dance class with me. He participated in Holland's Got Talent, and the jury pressed the golden buzzer.

Introduction

‘Family Secret’

For the documentary, I conducted interviews. I did this with Sepp himself, as well as with his two dance teachers. After all, they learned a lot about his story through dance. I conducted these interviews in the dance studio. I had prepared the interview questions on paper, so everything went smoothly during the recording. In addition, I took photos of objects, spaces, and people connected to his story. I can incorporate these into the brochure and poster.

Coffee Branding

In my first year of study, I got to work on my first branding project. I had to create branding for a coffee brand that stands for organic and sustainability. For this, I was tasked with designing a logo, styleguide and a customer gift.

Introduction

Coffee Branding

As a first step, I started creating the logo. I did a lot of sketching and research for this so that their core values would be reflected in the final product. I soon had a strong vision upon which I proceeded to prototype.

Process

Coffee Branding

I already had a concept idea for the customer gift. I wanted to package samples of different types of coffee beans. So, I needed packaging and a label for this. I designed these with a QR code where you could eventually order that coffee bean.

In the meantime, I also set up the style guide as soon as I had established the color theme and font style for the logo and client gift.

After developing my branding project, I have achieved a strong final result. The core values of organic and sustainability are also clearly reflected in the products.

‘HOAX’

For my Content Design profile class, we created a hoax. What this entails is that we invented an animal and provided supporting evidence. We had to create an encyclopedia spread along with an explainer video to convince children in grades 6/7 that this animal really exists.

Introduction

Used Tools

‘HOAX’

For the Spread, I illustrated my animal, the 'spinascuta', in Adobe Illustrator. I also created many graphics for it, such as charts and tables. Finally, I designed my collected elements into a spread. For the explainer, I dove into the film studio at school and recorded my explainer based on a script and storyboard.

Process

‘HOAX’

After many prototypes, animations, and editing, I have arrived at two strong final products. Incidentally, the spread also fits well with the visuals of the explainer, so it has become a beautiful whole.
